Supporting women in engineering

OFR Consultants has today announced its sponsorship of SheCanEngineer – a registered charity helping to close the gender gap in engineering sectors.

SheCanEngineer is a non-profit diversity, equity and inclusion initiative dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of female engineers and achieving gender parity. It currently works with professional bodies in the sector including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and The Institution of Fire Engineers

The sponsorship is the latest in a line of commitments by OFR. The company supports Women in Fire Safety – celebrating the achievements of the sector’s women at its annual awards – and supporting charities including the World Land Trust, The Africa Trust and Forever Manchester.  Our colleague and Associate Janine Kayode explained: “We are dedicated to giving back; supporting local communities, charities, and those who are under-represented in our sector and across society as a whole.

“Engineering has traditionally been a male-oriented environment, and part of our quest has been to break down gender barriers and create a culture that advocates for women, with an environment in which everyone can thrive.

“We share many values with SheCan whose cause truly resonated with our team. We are looking forward to collaborating with the organisation, celebrating women in our sector, inspiring our colleagues and meeting prospective recruits who value a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.”

SheCanEngineer was launched in 2016 and supports women in the sector through networking, events, podcasts and webinars. The organisation also promotes STEM to schoolchildren, with a recent outreach programme resulting in 95% of young people stating that they “felt better” about their engineering career prospects after engaging with the organisation.
