Project

The SSE Hydro / NHS Louisa Jordan Hospital

OFR supported the rapid delivery of the NHS Louisa Jordan hospital in Glasgow, a 1,000‑bed facility created within the Scottish Events Campus.

Working as part of a large multi‑contractor team led by Robertson Group and Balfour Beatty, our Scotland team provided on‑site and remote fire engineering support, including fire strategy advice and responses to fast‑moving site queries. Colleagues across the UK contributed specialist input, with our Oxford team developing a bespoke fire safety management plan. OFR mobilised quickly to meet the project’s 24/7 construction pace, helping ensure safe operation during a uniquely challenging COVID‑19 response.

Associate Director Katrina Simpson, who worked on the project, shares her thoughts:

“Supporting the delivery of the NHS Louisa Jordan was unlike anything I’ve experienced in my career. We were working at pace, navigating constant uncertainty, and adapting daily as the situation evolved – but everyone on site shared a real sense of purpose. At one point there were more than a thousand people working together and not a single positive Covid case, which amazes me. Looking back, it was an intense and emotional time, but it was a privilege to contribute to a facility that was built to protect people when the world needed it most.”

""OFR has responded rapidly, quickly mobilising a team to work a seven-day week to deliver the initial phase of support including the fast-paced simultaneous design and construction process." Jamie Gibson, Design Director, OFR"
