Project

Glenapp Castle

OFR Consultants worked on the £2m conversion of the Category B listed 5-star Glenapp Castle Hotel in Ayrshire.

This historic structure had faced building control challenges in recent years, with the OFR team drafted in to support client Truestone Glenapp Ltd to develop an extensive and detailed fire safety strategy for the refurbishment of the Castle’s third-floor; the team also prepared a retrospective fire strategy for the rest of the historic building.

"This is a prestigious building on which we were honoured to significantly contribute, supporting the client from initial concept to detailed design and construction."

The Glenapp Estate was already well established under the ownership of the Earl of Orkney when the industrialist, James Hunter (later to become the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire), acquired it and in 1870, commissioned the celebrated Edinburgh architect David Bryce, to design a suitably magnificent home for him.
