Ruoxi and Mel get the chop for children’s charity

Two members of our OFR team have recently raised a whopping £1,237 for children’s charity, The Little Princess Trust by having their locks chopped.

Principal fire engineer, Melanie Harris and senior fire engineer, Ruoxi Shi have smashed their original goal of raising £1,000, thanks to generous donations by OFR colleagues, friends and family.

Explaining why they decided to donate their hair to the charity which provides real wigs for children who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment or a medical condition, Ruoxi said: “We had both grown our hair to quite a length so we agreed that rather than see cm’s of hair go into the hair salon bin, we could keep it and donate it straight to the charity. The Little Princess Trust does amazing work for children going through a tough time. It was a really simple process and we’d recommend others to join us in doing the same, if they can do so.

“Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us, we’re thrilled to be able to donate this amount of money.”
